Wendy Johnson featured on Grist 50

The Regenerative Agriculture Foundation is excited to share that board member Wendy Johnson has been featured on the Grist 50 2024! 

Environmental media outlet Grist generates a list of 50 “Fixers” each year – folks who are on the leading edge of creating a more just and sustainable future. Wendy is being recognized for the innovative practices she’s working to implement at Jóia Food Farm to restore soil health and promote regenerative agriculture. 

Johnson introduced a perennial grain called Kernza, ewes and cattle to graze and fertilize it, and thousands of trees to reduce erosion… Earlier this year, during a historic flood, hers was the only land that didn’t go underwater.

Jóia Food Farm is located in northern Iowa, and is established on a section of land that has been in Wendy’s family for three generations. While monoculture practices run rampant across the Midwest, Jóia Food Farm has committed to more climate-smart and sustainable operations, though she recognizes breaking from the mold isn’t easy for small farmers.

“I think farmers are watching, but they’re hesitant to make change unless there’s things that support that change.”

The Regenerative Agriculture Foundation, with Wendy’s guidance, is committed to continue supporting movements and policies that support farmers who are interested in land stewardship and regenerative farming practices.
